Description

Observations of the country and its people by the English physician and natural philosopher. On page 89 of volume 1 Garnett, in a footnote over two pages, discusses the possibility of Plant intillegence, differentiating between ‘instinct’ and ‘design’. Garnett ‘Illustrated by a Map, and Fifty-Two plates, engraved in the Manner of Aquitinta, from Drawings taken on the spot by W. H. Watts, Miniature and Landscape Painter, who accompanied the author on his tour.’ An excellent copy of the first edition. With no inscriptions or bookplates. Endpapers renewed and rebound in a high quality quarter leather binding with raised bands and gilt titles. Maps and plates all present. A little water staining to the edges of the title page of volume 2 and offsetting from the plates to oopposite pages, otherwise internally VG. An exceptional copy.
