Description

Scarce little Doric poetry collection by the crofter at Barrowsgate. There is reasonable evidence to suggest that Smythe  was a model for the male characters, particularly Chae stachan in Grassic Gibbon’s Sunset Song ( Smythe was at shcool with James Leslie Mitchell/ Grassic Gibbon, and had served int he trenches in WW1  and returned to croft. He attended Mitchell’s funeral and his younger sister was the dedicatee of Sunset Song and at least inpart the inspirartion for Chris Guthrie. Mitchell visited Barrowsgate frequently).  Small format, 64pp, softcovers. Covers worn and marked, Lengthy inscription to half title adjuring anyone who borrows to return to its owner (in Scots). A Fair copy of a scarce work.
