Description

Registry of the Monastery. Profusely illustrated including several beautiful plates in colour. Water stain to front cover and spine ends bruised otherwise VG.

With a signed and very personal presentation inscription by the author to the eminent Scottish surgeon and pioneer of anaesthetic development, Patrick Heron Watson, who apparently cared for the author’s dying sister. A letter from the author to Watson is also included, attached to the front pastedown in a handmade docket with an inscription in the author’s hand.

There is a further association in an ownership label to the front free endpaper of the medieval and Scottish historian G W S Barrow dated 1962. Barrow was the Sir William Fraser Professor of Scottish History and Palaeography at the University of Edinburgh from 1979 to 1992, the chair being endowed by a gift of £25,000 by Fraser.

There are a few light pencilled notes and corrections to the text and index, I assume made by Barrow.

An unique copy.
