The author saw active service with the 1st Battallion Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) from Mons to the Marne as a battalion runner & scout until wounded in Jan. 1915. Ownership inscription “Proctor, Blairgowrie” to the fep – the Proctor family had connections with the Scottish Horse (A Captain William proctor died in WW1) and more recently the Black Watch (Major Ronnie Proctor).
