Victorian picture book with text. Translation of Anderson’s Tommelise [Thumbelina]. The illustrator Laura Gurney, who became  Lady Troubridge, was to become a prominent female novelist from 1896 onwards. Oblong folio format 32cm x 26cm. Illustrated by Laura Troubridge.. The Text, as Translated by Miss Peachey, by Kind Permission of Messrs. George Bell & Sons. Boards, worn to corners, with cloth spine. Ownership inscription of Marion Durand, 1895 to front endpaper  with small (chinese) ownership stamp. 10 plates, of which three have been sympathetically coloured in with pastels [presumably by Ms Durand!] . Some page edges rubbed but generally in VG condition for its age and a scarce item.
