Note the collation below for faults, missing plates etc. Handsomely bound in modern black leather with raised bands and gilt titles stating ‘Cook’s Voyages’ with the date 1811 to the foot of the Cook’s Voyage single volume. [Note that we would be prefer to sell as a set but will consider selling the 4 volumes of ‘An Historical…’ or the ‘Captain Cook’s Voyages’ but this would be more expensive than a purchase of the 5 volumes together] . Leather binding is tught and is in excellent conditiion other than a few scratches and some abrasion to the spines. – see scans
The four volumes of ‘An Historical Account consist of ‘the whole faithfully extracted from the journals of the voyagers : Drake, undertaken in 1577-80 ; Cavendish, 1586-88 ; Cowley, 1683-86 ; Dampier, 1689-96 ; Cooke, 1708-11 ; Rogers, 1708-11 ; Clipperton and Shelvocke, 1719-22 ; Anson, undertaken in 1740-44 ; Byron, 1764-66 ; Wallis, 1766-68 ; Carteret, 1766-69 ; and Cook, 1768-71 ; together with that of Sydney Parkinson, draftsman to Joseph Banks, Esq ; who circumnavigated the globe with Capt. Cook, in his Majesty’s ship the Endeavour ; and the voyage of Mons. Bougainville round the world, performed by order of the French king ; illustrated with maps, charts, and historical prints, in four volumes ; to which is added, an appendix ; containing the journal of a voyage to the North Pole, by the Hon. Commodore Phipps, and Captain Lutwidge.’

As is common with such sets there are some missing plates etc. Note that the following are not present in this set: – the map of Mexico which the binding instructions state should precede the introduction in volume 1, pp227-230 including the plate of a Califiornian Woman in Volume 2; The charts (folded) which should precede volume 3 are not present. Piece torn from bottom corner of p 51/52 affecting a few words on pp52. In Volume pp 83-87 are missing including 1 plate, Pages 195-198 are loose and laid in, rather worn but complete
