Published anonymously. Black cloth with gilt titles. VG condition. With a signed gift inscription from the author to the Glasgow publisher James Maclehose dated March 10 1886. The eldest son of a member of the publishing family, Alexander MacMillan, Malcolm Macmillan disappeared on 11 July 1889 while climbing Mount Olympus and was never seen again — a mystery which has never been resolved. With Maclehose’s bookplate, designed by D.Y.Cameron, to the front pastedown.
