Description
Published for private circulation. Diaries of Captain Harry Brocklesby Bartram and extracts from letters. Published by his mother following his death from gastric issues after the retrat from Mons in 1915. Hardcovers, 39pp. First and only edition of this scarce work. Captain H.B.Bartram was second in charge of ‘E’ battery of the 3rd Brigade of Royal Horse Artillery. ‘E’ Battery was very influential in covering the retreat from Mons. This copy is signed by Bartram’s mother with a gift inscription to Mrs Wilson. Mrs. Wilson was the mother of Captain E.W.G. Wilson who was serving inthe Royal Regiment of Artillery [and later Brigadier and commander of Anti-Aircraft Brigades in London and tobruk in WW2]. A black bordered letter is laid in from Alice Eugenia Bartram to ‘Mrs. Wilson’ enclosing the book and wishing Mrs Wilson ‘good news of her sons’. It also refers to the wounding of Captain Gillison [who is mentioned in the diaries]. Uneven fading to covers otherwise a VG copy of a very scarce item.
