Description

Very scarce ephemeral production. Purportedly autobiographical, stories relating to Musselburgh horse races set around 1880-1900. Somewhat similar to.Waters’ “Recollections of a Detective Police Officer’ or James Mc’Levy’s Edinburgh tales of the 1860s. Evidence in the book (eg Lord Roseberry’s ‘recent’ marriage – 1850s – and at the end a soldier having died in Egypt – perhaps the 1882 operations) suggests this book dates from the late 80s. Interestingly Waters was a pseudonym for William Russell so it is possible this was worked up by him for publication. Original paper covers . A VG copy
