Description
Limited to 135 copies of which this is number 97 of 100 put up for sale. With the stamp of Dundas of Rooksey to the front endpaper and his inscription [‘John James Dundas, Port Knowe, Tayport’] to the fep. The word Dundas is overwritten over ‘Scott’ suggesting a genealogical claim. A further inscription in the same hand ‘James Scott’ to free endpaper. Colour armorial frontispiece with tissue guard. One important note in margins of introduction which quotes James Dundas of Dundas having told the writer [James Scott] that he received nothing from the sale of the estate, dated 1919. Research suggests the inscriber is local industrialist Sir James Scott F.S.A (Scot) JP (1838-1925) whose book ‘The History of Tayport’ was published posthumously in 1927. He was also Chairman of the East Fife Liberal Association and received frequent visits from Herbert H Asquith M.P.. The book itself is in VG condition, with all plates, folding facsimiles of documents etc. in good order. Scarce
